Justin Bieber ATV assault charge case gets a court date

Bieber and Gomez on retreat

Bieber, who did not appear in court today when the trial date was set, has been charged with assault. The charges came from an incident while Bieber was on vacation in Canada — visiting his family in Stratford and riding ATVs — with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Selena Gomez.

In court today his lawyer, Brian Greenspan, said Bieber and Gomez were on a “peaceful retreat” but were harassed by paparazzi. While riding ATVs on a roadway Bieber collided with a minivan. After the collision Bieber and the minivan driver got into a fight.

There were no injures from the collision, but Const. Kees Wijnands of the Ontario Provincial Police has declined to reveal if there were injuries during the physical confrontation. However, the assault charges grew out of the physical confrontation.

Comedy Central Bieber roast

The scheduled date of the trial was set, however, for July 14, and July 15 if necessary. The name of the minivan driver who got into the confrontation with Bieber was not revealed. The Canadian pop star may not appear at the trial and there is a chance it could be settled out of court beforehand.

There was other Bieber news today, Comedy Central announced that their roast of Bieber, to take place on March 30, will be hosted by comedian and actor Kevin Hart.

Bieber has tweeted that he looks forward to it. “For years I have wanted Comedy Central to roast me,” he tweeted. “They said only if I provided them with more material so for a year now I have worked hard.”

It’s likely the assault charge on the ATV will find its way in to the evening’s comic fare.
