The couple, 26-year-old John David Cain and 37-year-old Deanna Lynn Greer, were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect or endangerment. This happened after the pair posted an advertisement on Craigslist, offering to sell the child for $3,000.
A sting operation led to Cain’s and Greer’s arrest on Friday. Undercover state agents received cash for the child. The couple was arrested immediately.
Court date has been set for both individuals. More details to come on WATE. March 27, 2017
Police received a tip about a baby being put up for sale and they decided to set a sting operation up. The couple met with undercover agents at a Dollar General store in the area, which is where the exchange took place.
Pat Hankins, Greene County Sheriff, said he has never seen a case like this. He has been on the job for over 30 years, and he said the whole thing made his heart drop.
Hankins said the state took custody of the child. As of now, it’s unclear if the couple have attorneys. What else is unclear is why they attempted to sell the baby.
Cain and Greer are being held on $150,000 bond. Greer’s next court date is on April 7 and Cain’s is the following day.
