Congressman used campaign funds to buy video games: FEC

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, Calif., has told the Federal Elections Commissions that over $1,000 to pay for video games were mistakenly charged against a campaign funds account by the congressman’s 13-year-old son.
A total of $1,302 was charged a combined 68 times against a campaign credit card, according to the FEC complaint.
The nearly 70 separate purchases each were made from the same PC online gaming apps store, called Steam, and Rep. Hunter maintains all but one of the purchases was fraudulent.
A spokesman for the congressman said in a statement that Rep. Hunter maintains the 67 reoccurring charges against the card between October and December were unauthorized, and those charges are being disputed.
The purchases are indeed noted on the congressman’s campaign filings as, “personal expenses,” to be, “paid back,”
Campaign funds are not permitted in any way to be utilized for personal expenses, according to a congressional ethics committee website.
Rep. Hunter made headlines earlier this year for his public use of a vaporizer on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.
