Colombia launches operation to free kidnapped general

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Thursday that he has ordered an operation to free a general and four other hostages from leftist FARC guerrillas.

"The procedure is underway," said the president, referring to the release of General Ruben Alzate and four other army captives being held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Colombia suspended peace talks with the rebels over Alzate's capture.
