As part of the crackdown, the police may break up funerals where there are strippers performing. This follows two recent cases. The two incidents occurred in the northern Hebei province and eastern Jiangsu, where strippers were invited to stage.
On February 15, an eyewitness from Hebei province said that two strippers were wearing revealing clothing as they danced at a public square in the village. The eyewitness continued to say that the women took off their clothes and behind them was a screen that displayed a photo of the person who has died.
The practice of strippers and and pole dancers performing at funerals is illegal. However, it is believed that it is still practiced in rural villages, and one of the reasons why is because there is a lack of other cultural events going on.
Strippers and pole dancers are sometimes hired at funerals as a way to attract a large crowd of mourners. It’s believed that when a big crowd shows up at a funeral, then it is a sign of honor for the deceased.
