The RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team arrested two Ottawa residents on Wednesday in what police call Project Samosa, according to the Toronto Star.
The suspected were being tracked for months and “at least one of the suspects is alleged to have ties to high-level Al Qaeda affiliates abroad, sources close to the case told the Star. More arrests are expected.”
At the west-end Ottawa townhouse where the arrests took place, police confiscated computer equipment, CTV Ottawa reported. They also snapped photos of an automobile, which was later towed away.
A press conference on Thursday afternoon will provide further details.
This isn’t the first time the RCMP have arrested suspects for terrorism-related offences. In June 2006, several young Muslim men called the Toronto 18 were prosecuted for attempting to attack downtown targets and a military base north of Ottawa.
