Canada’s curlers seal hat-trick of men’s titles

-

Dominant Canada won their third successive Olympic men's curling gold medal on Friday with a convincing 9-3 victory over Britain in the final.

After Canada's women's triumph 24 hours earlier, it was the first time that one country had swept both titles at the same Games.

Canada had already beaten Britain 7-5 in the round-robin stage in Sochi, when British skip David Murdoch missed an opportunity to win the match on the last stone.

Victory on Friday also maintained Canada's record of making the men's final at every Winter Olympics since curling returned to the Games at Nagano in 1998.

World champions Sweden claimed the bronze medal with a 6-4 extra-end win over China.

Sweden, skipped by Niklas Edin, had lost the bronze medal match at the 2010 Vancouver Games when they were edged out 5-4 by Switzerland.

China's men's team, in just their second curling appearance at the Olympics, matched their best major tournament result of fourth at the 2008 world championships.
