Calamity keepers share own-goal German howlers

-

Eintracht Braunschweig and Borussia Moenchengladbach drew 1-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday thanks to both goalkeepers scoring own-goals.

First, Braunschweig gifted Gladbach a first-half lead when Iran goalkeeper Daniel Davari turned the ball into his own net before Marc-Andre Ter Stegen committed a similar blunder at the other end.

The 21-year-old Ter Stegen, who is reported to be set to join Barcelona next season, watched in horror as the ball spun into his own net after he failed to control a back pass from captain Filip Daems just after the break.

"He's still sitting in a heap in the dressing room," said Gladbach's director of sport Max Eberl after Ter Stegen opted not to talk to reporters.

"Marc is the sort of player who takes high risks, but he will come out of this."

This is not the first time Ter Stegen has suffered such a blunder having conceded a similar goal last June in Germany's 4-3 defeat to the USA in Washington.

He has not been called up for Wednesday's friendly against Chile.
