Brazilian radio host gunned down during live broadcast

Gleydson Carvalho was shot multiple times by two men, and died en route to the hospital, according to reports.
Carvalho was well known in his hometown of Camocim for exposing political corruption throughout the Brazilian state of Ceara.
Two suspects reportedly forcibly entered the Radio Liberdade FM studio and shot the journalist while he was live on the air doing his radio show.
“Today, in a tragic and unnecessary way, one of the most important voices in our region was silenced,” the Camocim municipal government said in a statement.
Police arrested two suspects in the murder, but the gunmen themselves remain at large after having fled a residence when police officers arrived to investigate the crime.
Authorities suspect a for-hire murder.
Carvalho openly accused local politicians of overt corruption. He’d been the subject of numerous death threats posted to his Facebook page.
Some reports indicate the radio show host had been shot three times, other news reports indicate he’d been shot five times.
The attack is not unprecedented. In May, two journalists were killed in less than a week, prompting the National Association of Newspapers to denounce Brazil’s, “climate of impunity.”
