The teen, Kai Thomas, 15, suffered from a massive brain bleed last June, and he ended up collapsing. He was taken to Sheffield Children’s hospital, where he underwent a six-hour surgery. He was also put in a medically-induced coma, but when he initially woke up, he couldn’t walk or talk.
Eventually things changed and Thomas started to walk and talk again, but his mother Tracy said that there was a noticeable change in his behavior. She said that he developed an addiction to cheese, as well as to cursing.
Tracy said one day she heard her son yelling profanities in his bedroom, and when she went to check on him she noticed he was eating an entire block of cheese. She said over the course of the next few weeks, she started to notice that all types of cheese started to go missing from the fridge.
Thomas’s mother said that he has always liked cheese, he was never obsessed with it. She said that her son even added some to his cereal.
Mrs. Thomas said they asked the doctor, and they were told that sometimes people develop aggressive or inappropriate behavior after they wake up from a coma.
Kai’s condition is still improving and he attends mainstream school daily, while he receives tutoring at home.
