Body parts mailed to Vancouver schools

Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Warren Lemcke told reporters the “first package containing what appeared to be a human hand was opened by a staff member at False Creek Elementary School shortly after 1 p.m. local time,” CTV News writes.

Shortly after, another package was sent to St. George’s School in west Vancouver, containing a human foot, police said.

“There is no indication of identity (of the victim) at this time,” Lemcke said at a news conference, according to CTV News.

The investigation will look at identifying the victim and from where the packages were mailed, as the Vancouver Sun writes. Investigators will work with with any outside police agencies as required.

So far, police aren’t linking these body parts to the case of Luka Rocco Magnotta, a Canadian recently apprehended in Berlin after a worldwide manhunt ended last night. Police identified Magnotta as a key suspect related to incidents involving human appendages mailed to political party headquarters last week in Ottawa.

Larissa Warrington, the chair of the False Creek elementary PAC, told the Sun students appeared to have left school at the usual time when she arrived for her children and the atmosphere at the school was “business as usual.”
