A man who was on the run from the law didn’t try hard to conceal his identity. Federal agents apprehended the man after his picture was recognized in a local Washington newspaper.
Jason Stange, 44, was arrested on July 24 by federal marshals while starring in a horror film called Marla Mae that was shooting in Olympia, Washington. Stange, who used his real name in the film, was heavily featured in an article from local newspaper The Olympian about the movie and was photographed on set.
In 2006, Stange was sentenced to 117 months in prison after pleading guilty to an armed bank robbery. A federal probation violation warrant was issued in July 2014 after Stange left a halfway house in the Spokane area.
Agents found the Olympia filming location from a permit and arrested Stange at a nearby restaurant. Stange’s picture had been recognized by the U.S. Marshal Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force.
Stange was playing the role of Dr. Lourdes, a demented doctor, in the low-budget feature film.
According to an IMDB synopsis: “When a girl goes to get an IUD implanted by a distant relative, he commits a deranged act which has deadly implications for those close to her.”
Film producer Brandon Roberts told the Tacoma News Tribune that Stange “really nailed the audition.”
“Jason was a great guy,” Roberts said. “Everyone really liked him a lot.”
Stange will still be included in the final cut of Marla Mae, which is scheduled for a 2016 release.
