Bale ruled out of Madrid derby

-

Welsh winger Gareth Bale will miss Real Madrid's Copa del Rey semi-final, first leg against La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid on Wednesday due to an ongoing calf injury.

Bale has missed Real's previous two matches due to the injury, but boss Carlo Ancelotti had recalled the 24-year-old to his squad for the first of three Madrid derbies in little over three weeks.

However, he will now have to wait until at least Saturday's league clash against Villarreal to make a return after pulling out of the squad just hours before kick-off.

Bale, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur for a reported 91 million euros ($122.7million) back in September, has now missed a total of 10 games to injury in four separate spells this season.

However, Real will be able to count on Cristiano Ronaldo on his 29th birthday despite the Portuguese being handed a three-game ban for his red card and subsequent dissent against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend.

His suspension only applies to league games.
