Apple Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset developed by Apple Inc., the technology became available for pre-order in January 2024. The technology is marketed as a “spatial computer” where digital media is integrated with the real world. It is also very, very expensive – at $3,499 per device. But just how good is this latest offering in the crowded VR marketplace?

Flatiron Software Co. President Kirimgeray Kirimli has examined the technology and has passed his thoughts onto Digital Journal.

Kirimli discusses the immediate experience: “I was skeptical about Apple Vision Pro at first, thinking that it would have been a gimmicky product. After trying it, I was really impressed by its ability to display 3D images and also, most importantly, its ability to render images with its camera.”

The technology displays high-resolution computer graphics a few millimetres from the user’s eyes. The wearer controls the device via a desktop-like interface by using their eyes and subtle hand gestures. Some insiders have likened the technology to the future development course that the personal computer will take.

In terms of why the technology stands out, Kirimli observes: “The image quality is very high, it doesn’t cause dizziness, and it is overall a more comfortable product than I would have expected. It has very high processing power, and it’s basically a computer.”

In terms of further advantages, Kirimli indicates: “This allows you to render real-life objects using the goggles so that other people can share your experiences. It’s not only a device to display media but also a device to record media. This can be a game-changer once apps that use its full potential are developed.”

As a business application, Kirimli considers: “The Apple Vision Pro is the perfect window into the future of work. Over time, this technology has the potential to completely transform the way we function, but with all new innovations, enhancements must be made before these predictions become reality.”

As to what future technological development presents, Kirimli speculates; “While image quality is not great today, we can anticipate, like with the iPhone, that this will increase with use and continued adoption.”

Drawing a parallel with another Apple product, Kirimli suggests: “The iPhone once had poor image quality and lacked the power it holds today, much of which we can anticipate for the Apple Vision Pro. The headset breaks down barriers for employees, whether working remotely or hybrid and provides users with the ability to coexist in a common place regardless of physical location. Having this tool available for teams can potentially revolutionize the entire workforce.”
