We recently learned about LG beginning production of new, thinner smartphone screens, “which are speculated to be part of Apple’s next-generation iPhone,” according to Mashable. While some features of the iPhone 5 are still in rumour mode, it’s widely believed the iPhone 5 will sport a 4-inch screen, compared to a 3.7-inch screen on the iPhone 4S.
Apple is reportedly adding pixels to the display. “The new iPhone display resolution will be 640 x 1136. That’s an extra 176 pixels longer of a display,” this post from 9to5Mac states.
If that’s not enough, BGR reports the screens “are also thinner and include new technology that embeds touch sensors into the liquid crystal display, eliminating the touch-screen layer found in current iPhones.”
As a result, the iPhone 5 may be a bit taller than its other versions.
On the guts inside the smartphone, Digital Trends writes “Apple will allegedly make more room inside the next iPhone by adopting nano-SIM technology, which is 40 percent smaller than micro-SIM cards.”
The iPhone 5 will also reportedly include 4G LTE connectivity, as well as 1GB of RAM — double that of the iPhone 4/4S.
Still on the hardware side, Apple is rumoured to be working on a new dock connector that will be a smaller version of the iOS device syncing and charging port.
Leaked photos have been making the rounds online, such as these pics of the phone’s front assembly. Today CNET posted photos comparing the front face of the next iPhone next to the face of an iPhone 4S.
