NEW YORK (voa) – A U.S. inventor has unveiled his latest work: a one-person, battery-powered scooter he claims will revolutionize transportation.
Appearing on U.S. television Monday, Dean Kamen revealed the two-wheeled “Segway” scooter, which resembles both an old-fashioned hand-push lawn mower and the new-fangled Razor scooters of the 21st century.
According to those who have ridden it, the scooter is difficult to fall from or knock over because of gyroscopes that work to keep it upright. Speed and direction are controlled by the rider’s shifting weight.
The U.S. Postal Service and the National Parks Service are said to be among the first customers waiting to purchase the device, which ranges from three thousand to eight thousand dollars in price.
