The ProPILOT Chair, which was introduced last Tuesday, can spare the occupant the physical strain of standing for hours at an establishment.
A video recently released by the Japanese car maker company showed customers waiting outside a busy restaurant. They were sitting on chairs – equipped with a system that detects the seats ahead – that can move forward to the front of the line.

The new technology is the latest in a series of innovations that the company is creating under its Intelligent Mobility blueprint. Its introduction also followed the success of the Intelligent Parking Chair that Nissan unveiled earlier this year.
“The ProPILOT Chair appeals to anyone who has waited in line for hours outside a crowded restaurant; it eliminates the tedium and physical strain of standing in line. The same user-friendly philosophy underpins Nissan’s ProPILOT autonomous driving technology, which was designed to ease driver workload by assisting with the most tiring and repetitive aspects of driving in heavy highway traffic. The unifying concept behind both is Intelligent Mobility, Nissan’s vision for how cars will be driven, powered, and integrated into society,” Nissan said in a statement.

At least six units of the self-driving chairs, which will appear at selected restaurants across Japan next year, are currently on public display until October 2 at Nissan’s Global Headquarters in Yokohama for visitors to take the opportunity to try.
Restaurants wanting to use the autonomous chairs will have until December 27 to apply by tweeting their name and webpage together with the hashtags #NissanProPilotChair #Wanted. The recommended hashtag for other Twitter users is #NissanProPilotChair.
In February this year, Nissan introduced the first Intelligent Parking Chairs, an idea inspired by the company’s intelligent park assist technology, which enables drivers to easily park their cars through automatic steering.
The Intelligent Parking Chairs automatically move 360 degrees using a roller coupled with a system which points to the target position. These chairs are aided by cameras – installed on the room’s ceiling that create a bird’s-eye view to help them move to their destination.
This new technology is designed to relieve businessmen from the taxing routine of arranging chairs inside their offices.
