Digital Journal – Got a wall that’s looking lonely? Forget 19-century art and consider what Panasonic is offering: the world’s largest high-def plasma display, maxing out at 103 inches.
Panasonic USA has reportedly begun accepting orders for the gargantuan plasma, although pricing has not been announced. By comparison, the company’s largest plasma screen to date (65 inches) sells for $7,500 (US) in Japan.
When it debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, the 103-incher boasted a 1080p resolution, 3000:1 contrast ratio and a 3.8-inch pixel pitch. As to be expected for a giant like this bad boy, the unit weighs a whopping 473 lbs – not recommended for frequent mobility.
This is big news for home theatre fanatics, avid gamers, electronic billboard companies and the easily impressed. Undoubtedly, at 103 inches, Panasonic’s plasma will lure attention and even some early adopters. But how practical is a screen like this? Are the homes of the future going to feature massive plasma screens instead of bare white walls?
I think we know what Panasonic would want.
