Ontario Medal of Distinction Awarded to ”Honest Ed”

TORONTO, (CNW) – The Ontario government today honoured “Honest Ed” Mirvish with the Ontario Medal of Distinction. The medal was presented to Ed Mirvish during his 87th birthday celebrations by the Honourable Cam Jackson, Minister of Citizenship.

“The city of Toronto, the Canadian theatre and entertainment community and Ontario’s hospitality industry are deeply appreciative to the life-long contribution Ed has made,” said Jackson. “Ed is a one-of-a-kind entrepreneur and philanthropist, a man of distinction, someone who defines good citizenship
and a true friend to Ontario.”

The Ontario Medal of Distinction was first presented in 1994 to recognize
outstanding contribution and friendship to the Province of Ontario through
exceptional long-term efforts. The award reflects selfless acts of generosity
and kindness, and exceptional service to community life. Ed Mirvish is the
second person to receive this award.

The award is a medallion encasing a piece of amethyst with the provincial
coat of arms and the inscription “Bestowed upon those individuals who have
shown exceptional friendship to the Province of Ontario,” emblazoned on the
reverse.

“Ed Mirvish can count among his many remarkable accomplishments the fact
that he has managed to maintain the good will and respect of virtually
everyone he has ever met,” said Jackson. “In fact, people who have never met
‘Honest Ed’ feel like they know him as a friend.”
