Ontario-based Pyrowave listed in CIX Top 20 Innovative Companies

Oakville, Ontario-based Pyrowave, a startup in clean technologies, was named to the CIX Top 20 companies list for their patented technology involving Catalytic Microwave Depolymerization (CMD), which uses microwaves to perform fast de-polymerization of mixed plastics with small-scale modular units.

CIX was launched in 2008 by Canadian investors who wanted one destination to showcase the best emerging tech companies from across Canada. Today, CIX is Canada’s largest gathering of tech entrepreneurs and capital providers and provides an environment to foster business collaborations.

In September, a committee made up of technology experts and investors from across Canada selected the 20 most innovative technology companies to be inducted into the annual CIX Top 20 program.

Pyrowave’s process
The Pyrowave CMD converts mixed plastic, including food service plastic that may contain food residues, into predominately oil containing waxes and monomers. The monomers are them sold to chemical manufacturers to create new plastics.

Pyrowave has succeeded in putting the whole operation into a shipping container-sized module that’s a prototype for parties interested in wanting to install their own system. The module can handle up to 330 pounds per hour of scrap PS with power consumption of 100 kW per hour. Pyrowave currently has a demonstration facility in Montreal.

“Obtaining such recognition from the marketplace in Canada is essential to our future development. The CIX judging committee is certainly aware that our environment is threatened and that transformative technologies like Pyrowave are essential in matching our desire for a more sustainable future”, said Jocelyn Doucet, CEO of Pyrowave when the announcement was made.

On September 21, Pyrowave was also named to Canada’s Clean50 for 2018 in the Primary Resources category. “Canada’s Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize those 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada over the past 2 years,” says Gavin Pitchford, CEO of Delta Management Group.

If Pyrowave continues to grow, the company could become a major player in the CleanTech movement. The CIX endorsement indicates that the company is attracting growing interest from the investor and VC community.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Karen Graham, who served as Editor-at-Large at Digital Journal. She was 78 years old. Karen's view of what is happening in our world was colored by her love of history and how the past influences events taking place today. Her belief in humankind's part in the care of the planet and our environment has led her to focus on the need for action in dealing with climate change. It was said by Geoffrey C. Ward, "Journalism is merely history's first draft." Everyone who writes about what is happening today is indeed, writing a small part of our history.
