No Silent Nights For MP3 Fans

SAN DIEGO (djc) – Consumers from around the world continue using the Internet for a wide diversity of music, from mainstream choices to emerging artists. As the holiday season approaches, time-tested Christmas classics and new tunes alike can be found all over the web.

“There’s an amazing amount of great holiday music available for free on the Internet,” said Michael Robertson, chairman and chief executive officer of MP3.com (www.mp3.com). “For example, there are over two hundred versions of ‘Silent Night’ posted for listening on our site at www.mp3.com/silentnight, ranging from great traditional versions to more experimental takes. And that’s just one song–there’s definitely something for everyone’s taste this holiday season.”

MP3.com users have created a variety of stations featuring holiday songs available on the site. To sample the top holiday stations, visit christmas.mp3.com. Likewise, numerous digital artists on the site have posted holiday songs, including easy-listening pianist Ernesto Cortazar (www.mp3.com/ernestocortazar) and a band known as “Christmas” (www.mp3.com/christmas).

Many holiday songs on the site are also available to retailers through MP3.com’s web-based retail music service (www.mp3.com/retail), which allows commercial
businesses to create customized music and messaging playlists. Using the service, retailers can target market to consumers during the busiest shopping season of the year by scheduling advertising messages and holiday playlists months in advance.

Over 109,000 digital artists currently post music on MP3.com. To register to post music on the site for free, visit www.mp3.com/newartist.
