New Crime Fighting E-Tool For Police

ORLANDO – Police across the U.S.A now have a new e-tool in the arsenal to fight crime. PocketCopTM, a cutting-edge application that uses hand-held wireless “Palm” series devices to allow officers instant access to state and federal databases, was launched by Public Safety Group, Inc. (PSG) — a specialty public-safety computer-related products and services company.

“As far as we know, we are the first to market with this new product that will greatly improve officers’ crime fighting capabilities,” said Don Nagle, PSG founder. “With the tap of a stylus on the 2 x 3 inch screen, officers inquiries are whisked away to state and federal databases, making it simpler and faster for them to catch suspects in a variety of ways.”

Hand-held Access to State and Federal Databases

For example, license plate numbers can be searched easily and quickly to determine if a car is stolen or the owner is wanted. In addition, drivers’ licenses of individuals nabbed at the scene of a crime or present during any incident involving police can be searched for outstanding “wants or warrants” and previous arrest records.

Most law enforcement officials have some kind of electronic inquiry system in place to search state and federal databases by drivers’ and auto license numbers for information about suspects. Many have this capability via laptops mounted in their squad cars. Under development since March, PocketCop will make electronic access much less cumbersome.

“PocketCop will also provide capabilities to a broader array of police such as those walking a beat or riding on horseback, motorcycles or bikes,” Nagle explained. “In addition, it also offers e-mailing and messaging capabilities — a vast improvement over voice transmissions which can be monitored by anyone with a police scanner.”

Based in Orlando, Florida, Public Safety Group, Inc. (PSG) is a national company providing specialized public safety computer-related products and independent consulting services. Its founding partners have more than 100 years of experience in public safety both in the public and private sectors.
