To be ready for production by 2019, the system will involve Mobileye’s vision and sensor systems to be integrated into Delphi’s automated driving software to come up with “a complete (Society of Automotive Engineers) SAE Level 4/5 automated driving solution.”
The SAE, a United States-based organization, classifies Level 4 as high automation and Level 5 as full automation.
Mobileye and Delphi have agreed to develop what they called the Central Sensing Localization and Planning (CSLP) platform for an automated driving system to be demonstrated at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“The Mobileye and Delphi relationship started in 2002 with the implementation of what was one of the most advanced active safety systems of the time. Our long history together is key to the success of this ambitious endeavor,” said Professor Amnon Shashua, Mobileye Chairman and Chief Technology Officer.
“Our partnership with Delphi will accelerate the time to market and enable customers to adopt Level 4/5 automation without the need for huge capital investments, thereby creating a formidable advantage for them.”

Kevin Clark, Delphi President and Chief Executive Officer, said: “This partnership will allow us to give our customers an increased level of automated capabilities faster and more cost effectively. The collective expertise of our two organizations will accelerate the creation of new approaches and capabilities that would likely not have been possible working alone. This is a win-win for both companies and our customers.”
The collaboration will use Mobileye’s EyeQ 4/5 System for “real time mapping and vehicle localization” and Delphi’s automated driving software algorithms and the Multi-Domain Controller (MDC), which includes “full camera, radar and LiDAR suite.”
Last month, Mobileye also entered into a partnership with German car maker BMW and American computer chip manufacturer Intel to develop a technology for self-driving cars.
The three firms said they are committed to come up with autonomous vehicles in five years.
