The first people to pre-order the Xbox One X will receive the “Project Scorpio Edition” version of the console. In homage to the console’s popular codename and under-the-hood technology, Microsoft has developed the Project Scorpio Edition for its “biggest fans.”
The console comes with a special Project Scorpio-labelled box, a unique colour scheme and an included vertical stand. There’s also visible “Project Scorpio” green branding on the console and its accompanying controller. It’s available for global pre-order in markets worldwide.
Microsoft said the Scorpio Edition is based on a fan-inspired design and is meant to usher in the “world’s most powerful” console. The Xbox One X is being designed around next-generation 4K gaming, offering developers more performance to create richer titles.
During its Gamescom event, Microsoft released more details of the games available for the Xbox One X. The console will launch with a series of “enhanced” games featuring improved 4K graphics to take advantage of its hardware.
Titles confirmed to utilise the X’s features include upcoming releases Forza Motorsport 7, Sea of Thieves, Middle-earth: Shadow of War and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the acclaimed PC game of the moment. Microsoft has also confirmed a long list of existing Xbox games that will be updated with new visual features for the Xbox One X.
“During Xbox @ gamescom Live, we showcased one of our largest, most diverse line-up of games from developers around the world and highlighted our commitment to delivering amazing games and experiences for gamers on both console and Windows 10 PCs,” said Microsoft. “Regardless of what type of gamer you are, there has never been a better time to be Xbox fan.”
Besides 4K gaming, the Xbox One X also offers Ultra HD HDR Blu-ray playback and Dolby Atmos surround sound. Microsoft wants the console to be viewed as the ultimate media hub, offering a true next-generation gaming experience but also a complete home cinema setup. The company claims the Xbox One X has 40 percent more power than any other console.
Xbox One X pre-orders will start shipping on November 7. Pre-orders will be made for the Project Scorpio Edition until supplies run out. Microsoft hasn’t said how many Scorpio consoles will be available or whether the regular version has the same $499 price tag.
