NEW YORK – In an effort to encourage the people of New York to Make Something, a small army of students from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) took to the subway trains on March 28, sketch pads and charcoal in hand, sketching random passengers.
Each subject was offered his or her sketch, which was stamped with the Make Something message on the back.
Make Something is a grass roots movement to inspire New Yorkers to enroll in the School of Visual Art’s continuing education program which offers night classes in various artistic disciplines including fine arts, film and video, advertising, graphic design, animation, interior design and photography, among others. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the SVA’s general education curriculum as well.
Today’s Sketch Invasion is the launch of New York’s School of Visual Arts’ new advertising campaign, Make Something, to inspire and motivate creativity. The campaign, created by Wieden+Kennedy/New York, is a challenge to New Yorkers with any creative impulse to take action.
The “Stimulus Movement”, as defined in an official manifesto, aims to battle complacency, mediocrity and stagnancy, replacing those emotionally numbing thoughts with “the life-affirming obsession to create!”
