LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexmark International, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard will manufacture this year new generation of 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution inkjet printers.
With products that begin shipping this month, the 2002 Z-line, which includes the Lexmark Z65, Z55, Z45, Z35 and Z25 Color Jetprinters, offers fast print speeds and new features that make it easier than ever for small-office and home users to print.
“These products establish a number of industry firsts, including 4800 dpi inkjet print resolution – a groundbreaking technology we are proud to deliver to our customers today,” said Tim Craig, Lexmark vice president and president of its Consumer Printer Division. “As the Internet expands the volume of accessible digital information, there is a growing need for printers like ours, that enable greater productivity and offer consumers the best possible inkjet printing experience with rich graphic capabilities that are fast and easy to use.”
Also, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. announced it will incorporate industry-leading 4800-optimized dots-per-inch (dpi) technology in many of the company’s future inkjet printers.
“Increased dpi is the first in a series of innovative technological enhancements HP will introduce this year,” said Michael McAvoy, category business manager, Personal Printing. “As the leading inventor in this field, HP recognizes the rapidly changing needs of consumers who want to do
more with their printers simply and reliably — and with the best results possible.”
The 4800 x 1200-optimized dpi to be employed in future HP inkjet printers is an alternative photo mode that is useful in printing high-resolution source images on premium photo papers. HP’s high-resolution image rendering enables the printer to optimize ink-drop placement to deliver stunning
detail to high-resolution files.
The 4800-optimized dpi mode is specifically tailored to printing source images larger than 600 dpi on premium photo papers with the appropriate computer system resources.
The flagship Lexmark Z65 offers a host of innovative features enabling it to meet the demanding needs of small office/home office (SOHO) users and high-end consumers.
Dual paper trays make it simple to print on a variety of media, such as glossy photo paper and transparencies. Lexmark’s PrecisionSense™ technology automatically determines the type of stock in the front paper tray and adjusts the printer driver to optimize output.
In addition, the Lexmark Z65 boasts best-in-class print speeds of up to 15 pages per minute (ppm) in color, and up to 21 ppm in black – making it ideal for high-volume users.
In black and color, the Lexmark Z65 touts 4800 dpi resolution, while the Lexmark Z55 is capable of 3600 dpi resolution. These inkjets also feature a three picoliter microfine color drop size, allowing for better color transitions and more detailed textures.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the superb detail and vivid color, while SOHO users will benefit from eye-popping color graphics and laser-sharp text output.
