Illegal Immigrants Found In Ship’s Container

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Thirty-six illegal Asian immigrants were discovered this week in two containers aboard a cargo ship that docked here after a voyage from China and a stop in South Korea, officials said.

Doctors reported the six women and 30 men were in good health.

The RCMP and Immigration officials spent hours searching the MV Pretty River after receiving a tip from the ship’s crew. The people found inside shipping containers remained on board late Tuesday afternoon.

In January 2000, 25 Chinese men were discovered aboard a cargo ship, and during the summer of 1999, almost 600 Chinese people arrived in four decrepit cargo ships off the British Columbia coast.
