Google Blacklists BMW From Search Engine

Digital Journal — Luxury vehicle manufacturer BMW has reportedly had its German website blacklisted after Google learned it was trying to artificially boost its popularity on the Internet search engine.

In a blog post by Google software engineer Matt Cutts, the team says it removed BMW’s site from its Web index after it included “doorway pages” that can automatically redirect visitors to a different URL.

Google says BMW violated its guidelines by using the technique that artificially boosts its search engine rating. Cutts wrote that the company made searches for BMW and gebrauchtwagen (used cars) redirect web surfers to BMW’s site first. Google has since issued what is being called a “Google Death Penalty” that severely lowers BMW.de will have to remove all JavaScript that redirects users around the website, which the site has already started doing.
