After a mystery F12 was spotted on the Ferrari test track of Maranello back in June, there are strong indications that the Italian company is getting ready to release a lightweight Speciale version of the F12.
Autocar reports that the new F12 could be be unveiled in March 2016 at the Geneva motor show. It is set to be a full-scale production car, and not a limited edition.
The F12 Speciale is understood to weigh up to 200kg less than the standard F12 and the V12 engine will be boosted from 730bhp to 760bhp. The Speciale will hit 0-62 mph in a time of 3.0 seconds or less.
The power-to-weight ratio will be increased from 447bhp per tonne to 531bhp per tonne, a ratio that would surpass the Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce (485bhp per tonne), and equal that of the Porsche 918 Spyder hyper-car.
However, the top speed of 211 mph for the current F12 may not be matched by the Speciale because of a very extreme aerodynamics package that could increase drag.
The F12 Speciale may be the last non-hybrid production Ferrari to go on sale, with the company stating that future V12 models will use electric motors, such as in the La Ferrari.
The interior will be given a minimalist overhaul, with all peripheral novelties such as luxury carpeting and sat–nav removed, but the features will be available as optional extras.
The F12 Speciale is expected to cost in the region of $500, 000.
