ALEXANDRIA, VA – Tim Berners-Lee, the father of the World Wide Web, will address thousands at the Graphic Communication Associations (GCA) XML 2000 Conference on the latest developments in the quickly morphing world of the Web. Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in late 1990 while working at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. He wrote the first WWW client (a browser-editor running under NeXTStep) and the first WWW server along with most of the communications software, defining URLs, HTTP and HTML.
A graduate of Oxford University, Berners-Lee is now the overall Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and a principal research scientist at the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science.
