Devils Fans Not Amused By Toronto Ad

NEWARK – New Jersey Devils fans were not laughing about a Colgate-Palmolive advertisement that ran in two Canadian newspapers Thursday. The ad for Mennen Speed Stick deodorant, which ran in The Toronto Sun and The Toronto Star shows a New Jersey map atop a container of the product.

“Unfortunately, there are some smells even we can’t do anything about,” the ad reads.

A spokesman for New York-based Colgate-Palmolive, which has several thousand employees who live and work in the Garden State, said the ad was created by its Canadian subsidiary and was not intended to slight New Jerseyans. adding that the ad would never run again.

The Maple Leafs beat the Devils 3-1 Thursday, leaving their best-of-seven series tied 2-2, with Game 5 in New Jersey on Saturday.
