(NYSE: SEG) today announced plans to ship the industry’s fastest hard disk
drives. The 15K RPM hard disk drives are designed to meet the demands of
e-business and online transaction processing. Compaq is the first in the
industry to deliver 15K drives to customer sites for beta evaluation.
The new drives manufactured by Seagate and delivered by Compaq Storage and
Server Solutions will provide customers with significant performance
advantages. Designed for all Compaq StorageWorks solutions that today
utilize 10K hard disk drives, the soon-to-be-available 15K drives will offer
a 33% improvement in IOPS (input/output operations per second) over 10K RPM
for the ultimate in application performance.
