PUSAN, South Korea (voa) – A Chinese passenger jet carrying more than 160 people has crashed in bad weather near the South Korean city of Pusan.
South Korean transport officials initially reported that most of those on board were feared dead, but they now say as many as 39 people survived Monday’s crash.
The Air China Boeing 767 was on a flight from Beijing when it crashed into a mountainside, near a residential area. There were no immediate reports of casualties on the ground.
Police say it was raining at the time of the crash, with low clouds and dense fog apparently reducing visibility in the area.
Officials say the bad weather has been hampering rescue efforts. Most of those on board are believed to be South Koreans returning from vacation in China.
