Chevy Bolt will be under $30,000 after tax rebate

After a federal tax rebate of $7,500, the Bolt Trim — GM’s basic model of the car — will sit at a healthy $29,995. That model comes with 60kWh battery that is capable of 238 miles on a single charge.

It all sounds appealing, and it is, though there are some caveats. Purchasers of the car will have to pay at least $7,500 in income tax to be elligible for the federal tax rebate that makes car so affordable. And the Tesla 3 will also have a federal rebate for some customers that will allow the price of their sedan to be comparably attractive.

But the main point of attraction for the developing electric vehicle industry is the possibility of the Bolt taking off in a big way, and GM sporting the production capacity to make it happen fast. Tesla’s slow rate of production has been a concern this year for investors and potential buyers alike, especially as the company intends to branch out and produce of a wider range of electric vehicles. One of the big three getting into the game offers the chance for electric vehicles making it onto the roads like never before.

And the Bolt looks great too! Though there will likely be some who think it’s not pretty enough; they can opt for the Premier model — with leather seats and a 360 degree camera system — starting at $41,780.
