Chanel’s New Model of the Year

The lights, the glamour, the excitement of high fashion! It’s no wonder thousands of girls dream of a life as a professional model. One lucky teenager has seen that dream come true, thanks to CHANEL and Seventeen magazine.

Kimberly Shelpman, a fifteen-year-old high school sophomore from Rockledge, Florida has been chosen as the CHANEL New Model of the Year. When the CHANEL New Model of the Year contest appeared in Seventeen last February, over 16,000 young women entered. CHANEL, together with Seventeen, narrowed the field to fifty girls, and then again to eight national finalists.

The eight finalists were flown to New York where they experienced four whirlwind days as working models. They received professional hair and makeup sessions, met with executives of top modeling agencies, and participated in a photo shoot that will appear in Seventeen. This is the third consecutive year that CHANEL and Seventeen have teamed up to present the CHANEL New Model of the Year contest, where the girl next door could turn out to be the next Claudia Schiffer.
