KINGSTON, Jamaica — A fugitive wanted in Canada in connection with 13 murders appeared in a Jamaican court Monday saying he knew nothing about the charges and wanted to return to Canada to fight them.
Walter Stadnick was apprehended Saturday at the Ritz Carlton Hotel outside the resort town of Montego Bay, police said.
On Monday, Stadnick told the court he was anxious to return to Canada and welcomed extradition, Independent RJR Radio said.
Authorities in Canada want to try Stadnick on 13 counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, one count of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of narcotics trafficking and two counts of attempting to smuggle narcotics, police said.
Stadnick was being held by Jamaican authorities, who did not announce any charges against him. The police did not say if he would be extradited.
In Canada, the Winnipeg Sun newspaper described Stadnick as the leader of a chapter of the Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang in Hamilton, Ontario, and a former president of the Canadian Hell’s Angels.
