Britannica.com Named One Of Top 100 Web Sites

CHICAGO, IL – Adding to the significant critical acclaim it has received since launching 18 months ago, Britannica.com has been selected as one of the “Sites We Love” in the March issue of Yahoo! Internet Life magazine and one of “Top 100 Web Sites” in the March issue of PC Magazine.

“Billed as Yahoo! Internet Life’s “first-ever look at the bookmarks our own staff can’t live without,” the “Sites We Love” feature includes 27 personal favorites, while PC Magazine’s listing is an annual feature that this year also gives special recognition to Britannica.com’s design and performance. Britannica.com also made PC Magazine’s “Top 100 Web Sites” list last year.

After experiencing one of the most heavily trafficked and highly publicized launches in Internet history, public response to Britannica.com remains strong. The site is now ranked among the Web’s top 250 sites by Nielsen NetRatings, and is the Internet’s top reference site, according to ZDNet’s respected “Anchor Desk.” Major consumer and Internet media — from Consumer Reports to Playboy — have praised its quality and range of content. PCWorld magazine selected it as one of the four best sites on the Internet in 2000.

“We’re proud that Britannica.com continues to be recognized by leading Internet organizations, Web sites and media,” said Mitch Davis, senior vice president for Britannica.com. “This praise shows we’ve been successful in creating an accessible, high-quality site that offers the most informative and authoritative content available on the Web.”

Yahoo! Internet Life is routinely recognized as one of the world’s leading consumer Internet magazines, while PC Magazine is regarded as a must-read for e-business leaders. The March issues of both magazines, with the features highlighting Britannica.com, are now on newsstands.
