NEW YORK – Media owner Michael Bloomberg entered the mayoral campaign officially in television ads that aired on local television stations Tuesday morning.
A long-time Democrat who switched parties last fall, Bloomberg is seeking the Republican nomination against former congressman Herman Badillo, who has not yet declared his candidacy.
Bloomberg is one of at least six men seeking to succeed Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who is barred by law from seeking a third consecutive term this fall.
There are four major candidates on the Democratic side: City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Public Advocate Mark Green, City Comptroller Alan Hevesi and Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer.
