LOS ANGELES – In response to exploding demand by Los Angeles-area businesses needing high-speed, reliable and sophisticated Internet and web hosting services, AT&T today announced it will soon open a 290,000-square-foot Internet Data Center in Hawthorne, Calif. The facility,
AT&T’s largest in the United States to date, will provide managed end-to-end
web hosting services that are essential for media and entertainment, “clicks
and mortar” businesses, startups and dot-coms.
“The demand for Internet Data Center space is sizzling in California, as
well as nationwide,” said Rebecca Doi, AT&T sales vice president for Growth
Markets in California. “AT&T has more than tripled its available space in the
last six months, with demand continuing to grow exponentially. More and more
companies realize they have to adapt to the new business models driven by the
Internet — if they are to survive. The AT&T Web hosting services offered
through the new Internet Data Center will help California-based businesses
navigate these transitions successfully and economically.”
The Hawthorne center is part of AT&T’s Internet Data Center (IDC) buildout
plan for 2001. The plan more than doubles AT&T’s current Web hosting capacity
and calls for the construction of eight more centers, at least one
internationally. AT&T currently has two IDCs in New York City, two in
San Diego, and centers in Silicon Valley, Chicago, Phoenix, Secaucus, N.J.,
Orlando, Fla., and Middletown, Va., in the United States, Birmingham in the
U.K., and Tokyo and Osaka in Japan.
These robust, secure data centers offer AT&T’s market-leading, high-speed,
bandwidth-rich connectivity along with monitoring, system setup, service and
ongoing support. AT&T Internet data centers provide direct, high-speed access
to AT&T’s superior OC192 Global IP network — one of the world’s largest
networks. Each center has state-of-the-art redundant security features,
uninterruptible power supplies and environmental controls to enhance
reliability and to support customers’ mission critical applications.
AT&T Internet Data Center customers will have access to AT&T’s full
portfolio of managed hosting services, including network and bandwidth
management, hardware and operating system management, database management,
storage services, high availability data and computing services, streaming
media content, intelligent content distribution service, managed security and
firewall services, and professional services.
AT&T Solutions, the company’s networking professional services arm, offers
QoS (Quality of Service) and customized Service Level Agreements on
custom-hosted solutions. These are based on clients’ requirements for
applications and transactions.
