People paid an average of $503.83 per Watch and typically bought 1.3 watches, implying that many people were buying a pair of devices. 71% of purchasers have bought the Apple Watch in its larger 42mm size, representing the majority of pre-orders.
The most affordable Apple Watch Sport was the favourite amongst buyers. Over 40% of people bought the space gray Sport. The Black Sport band was the most popular accessory.
The stainless steel Apple Watch was the next most popular variant, attracting 34% of US pre-orders. Many people added a black or white Sport band to their order though.
72% of those who bought an Apple Watch on Friday had purchased another Apple product within the past two years and 21% had pre-ordered an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus at launch.
11% now own an iPhone, iPad, Apple computer and Apple Watch, representing the most dedicated Apple fans. The figures highlight how many people are willing to buy new Apple products regardless of the pricing. The presence of some negative reviews online doesn’t seem to have deterred people from snapping up the smartwatch.
A total of 957,000 people in the US are believed to have bought an Apple Watch on Friday. Some industry analysts told Fortune that worldwide figures could have topped 2 million if the figures are accurate.
The data comes from e-retail research firm Slice Intelligence. It came to the figures by analyzing email receipts from 2 million online shoppers. Although not precise, the numbers are likely to be good indicators of actual sales figures.
Apple hasn’t officially said how many pre-orders have been received but Tim Cook is understood to be pleased with the popularity of the wearable. The device was sold out worldwide within hours of its online launch on Friday with estimated shipping dates quickly being pushed by months from the first possible delivery day of 28th April.
