Young women with a budding interest and a strong passion for STEM are being encouraged to take place in the Youth Experience event. The activities will take place in Toronto on the morning of November 7 as part of the upcoming #movethedial Global Summit.
#movethedial was formed in January 2017 and it has run several projects to encourage female participation in science and technology. This has involved working with a number of leading Canadian corporate and technology partners.
In 18 months, #movethedial has built a community of over 4000 members, coordinated through a body of over 50 volunteer leaders. The organization has run or been involved with a series of well-attended events, such as the Elevate Toronto Tech festival, which was held in September 2018 for some 3,000 attendees, and the Take Over Conference, which featured 50 percent of women speakers on panels.
A new phase with #movethedial developments is to encourage younger people to participate in STEM fields – science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This is through an event called the #movethedial Global Summit Youth Experience. The event takes place on November 7 at the Masonic Temple.
Speakers include Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO of Plan International Canada; Leen Li, Chief Financial Officer at Wealthsimple and Hillary Hartley, Chief Digital Officer for the province of Ontario, Canada.
The event was developed in association with The Knowledge Society (TKS) and Plan International Canada. Funding has been provided by the TD Bank Group. The central aim is to inspire people to action that will advance women to enter leadership roles in the global technology community.
For the event, 200 free tickets for the Youth Experience are now available. These are on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are welcome across all genders. Following the morning event, delegates are welcome to attend the #movethedial Global Summit at Koerner Hall in the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning.
