HALIFAX — A woman is presumed dead after being lost overboard from the coast guard ship Sir William Alexander off the coast of Nova Scotia.
Jane E. Boutlier of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was discovered missing when a roll call was conducted at 8 a.m. Sunday for the 27 crew members and two fishery officers on board.
Boutlier was last seen midnight Saturday.
By Sunday night the search was winding down and there was little hope of finding the body, said a spokesman for the search and rescue center in Halifax, David Lever.
“There’s really not much we can do at this point,” said Lever. “It’s highly unlikely we will find the body.”
Lever said the expected survival time was less than three hours in the waters southwest of Nova Scotia where the woman went missing.
