Video: US Olympian Lindsey Vonn injured in skiing accident

A skiing official reported that she suffered “a cruciate and lateral ligament” injury. There’s no other word about the extent of any other injuries.

Vonn, a four-time overall World Cup champion, looked like she lost her balance after landing a jump. Her skis came off immediately, and she slid off course and careened into a gate before stopping. She was treated on the slope for 12 minutes before being taken to a hospital by helicopter.

The US star skier trailed Tina Maze of Slovenia, who won gold, by 0.12 seconds shortly before the crash, as Sky News writes.

Yahoo Sports notes in an earlier article that Vonn wrote for the Denver Post, she was concerned about the weather for this event:

I’ve been trying to be patient and stay calm, but it’s pretty tough with the way the weather has been. It snowed a lot Sunday night, there was no training possible Monday on the race hill, then it rained most of Monday afternoon and evening. I know they’re going to try really hard to get the race off Tuesday. I have to try to stay positive and prepare for a race that I hope will happen.

The 2014 Winter Olympics – where Vonn would be expected to compete at – begins in almost exactly a year in Sochi, Russia.
