USA Swimming announces the 2022 Golden Goggle nominees

USA Swimming has announced its 2022 Golden Goggle Awards nominees.

USA Swimming has announced its 2022 Golden Goggle Awards nominees for their achievements in swimming. They will honor the American swimming stars from the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships.

The “Breakout Performer of the Year” Award is given to the athlete whose performance(s) stand out in relation to other years, with special emphasis on the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominees include Carson Foster, Claire Curzan, Leah Hayes, Hunter Armstrong, and Torri Huske.

The “Perseverance Award” is given to the athlete who came back from adversity, retirement, sickness, injury, etc., to have an outstanding performance(s) in 2021, with special emphasis on the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominees are Leah Smith, Lilly King, and Luca Urlando.

The “Coach of the Year” Award is given to the coach whose athlete(s) performed at the highest level throughout the year, with special emphasis on the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominated coaches are Anthony Nesty, Eddie Reese, Ron Aitken, and Todd DeSorbo.

The “Relay Performance of the Year ” Award is given to the best team relay performance, male or female. The performance considered must be a finals performance, with special emphasis on the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominated relays are the Women’s 4×200 Free Relay, the Men’s 4×200 Free Relay, the Women’s 4X100 Medley Relay, the Men’s 4×100 Free Relay, and the Mixed 4×100 Medley Relay.

The “Female Race of the Year” Award is given to the female swimmer with the greatest single individual race of the year, with special emphasis on the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominated races are Alex Walsh’s 200 IM, Katie Ledecky’s 800 free, Lilly King’s 200 breast, Regan Smith’s 100 back, and Torri Huske’s 100 fly final.

The “Male Race of the Year” Award is given to the male swimmer with the greatest single individual race of the year, with special emphasis on the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominated male races are Bobby Finke’s 800 meter and 1,500 meter freestyle races, as well as Carson Foster’s 400 meter IM race and Ryan Murphy’s 200 meter backstroke race.

The “Female Athlete of the Year” Award is given to the top female swimmer of the year with special emphasis on achievements at the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominated female swimmers include Alex Walsh, Katie Grimes, Katie Ledecky, Lilly King, Regan Smith, and Torri Huske.

The “Male Athlete of the Year” award is given to the top male swimmer of the year with special emphasis on achievements at the 2022 FINA Swimming World Championships. The nominees include Bobby Finke, Carson Foster, Nic Fink, and Ryan Murphy.
