MLB: AL East flying high with Toronto and Baltimore in playoffs

The Blue Jays are now set to host the post seasons first game on Tuesday against the Orioles with the winner advancing and taking on the Texas Rangers on Thursday.

Champagne was popping and hugs and high fives were all around the Jays’ locker room after the team held off Boston 2-1. The Red Sox had already locked a spot in October, but came into the last game still looking to wreck Toronto’s season.

This is the second straight year the Canadian franchise has made it to the post season. Unlike last year, September was a tough month for the organization as they faltered down the stretch and nearly let Detroit in through the backdoor.

Baltimore also won on Sunday, 5-2 over the NY Yankees and will be making their third appearance in the last five years in the race for a World Series title. These two teams played last week with the O’s winning two of three, momentum that could carry them to Texas.

Cleveland won the AL Central this season and will host the Red Sox with game one set for Thursday. The Indians gained home field advantage by just a single game and won their last three ball games to enter the series with some momentum.

The National League has San Francisco traveling to New York as they face the Mets on Wednesday. The winner will advance to play the Chicago Cubs, the team with the best overall record in the 2016 MLB season.

Washington will play host to the LA Dodgers in the other NL playoff series and this could be one of the more exciting match ups as both teams have played well done the stretch, but wit the Nationals holding home field advantage, that could be the difference.
