The front office will likely have several big questions to answer this winter and tops on that list is what they will offer free agent David Price. Reports have the lefty possibly signing a new deal this off season valued at over $200 million, not exactly the kind of money this team throws around to just one player and that has many MLB experts predicting a change of venue for the All Star pitcher.
Mark Buehrle, R.A. Dickey, and Marco Estrada are also free agents, with the team holding the option for Dickey. However, with that much talent possibly leaving the organization, they will need to search the free agent market to find the help they need for next season.
Reports have already surfaced on potential moves with the latest from Bleacher Report suggesting Jeff Samardzija from the Chicago White Sox as one possible answer. After struggling in 2015, the 30-year-old won’t cost anywhere near the rate Price will demand, but he does have some upside.
At 47-61 for his career, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Samardzija averaged eight strikeouts per nine innings pitched and an ERA of just over 4.00. The former fifth round pick is also very competitive and a move to a team like the Toronto Blue Jays and the type of offense it has, could make this big right-handed pitcher a 15-game winner.
There has also been MLB trade rumors involving San Diego Padres starting pitcher Tyson Ross. The Jays have young shortstop Richard Urena they could use in a possible deal, giving Toronto the help they need on the mound and the Padres a young infielder they can build around.
