Tigers trade Prince Fielder to Rangers

The trade was first reported by CBS Sports, who added that the trade will be finalized pending physicals.

Fielder has a limited no-trade clause that includes the Rangers, meaning that he must waive the right to block the trade. Reports indicate that he will do so.

Because Fielder’s salary is much larger than Kinsler’s, Texas will also likely receive cash from the deal. In addition, at least one other player might be involved.

USA Today reports that trading Fielder will allow 2013 MVP Miguel Cabrera to move to first base, and will give the Tigers extra cash to re-sign 2013 Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer.

This year, Fielder batted .279, hit 25 home runs and 106 RBI, according to Sports Illustrated.

On the Rangers’ end, Kinsler’s trade will allow them to move prospect Jurickson Profar to second base. Kinsler’s 2013 record includes a .277 batting average, 13 home runs and 72 runs batted in.
