Kendricks will be competing along with such world renowned pole vaulters as Russian pole vaulter Timur Morgunov, who was the silver medalist at the 2018 European Championships, and who won first finalist in the 2018 IAAF Diamond League in Brussels.
Other athletes will include Canadian pole vaulter Shawn Barber, Changrui Xue from China, and world record holder Renaud Lavillenie (France).
At the men’s pole vault final in the 2018 IAAF Diamond League in Brussels, Kendricks came in second place with a clearance of 5.88 meters, which he accomplished on his third and final attempt. Shawn Barber finished in third place in Brussels with 5.83 meters. Timur Morgunov won with 5.93 meters.
Morgunov’s season best was six meters (which was also a personal best), while Kendricks’ season best was 5.96 meters, and Renaud Lavillenie’s was 5.95 meters. The world leader in the sport this outdoor season was 18-year-old Mondo Duplantis, who competes for Sweden.
Kendricks was the 2017 world champion in the men’s pole vault, and he came in second place at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham earlier this year.
