Shields, who competes for the Los Angeles Current (with Lenny Krayzelburg as the General Manager of the team), won the men’s 200 meter butterfly race in the U.S. derby with a time of 1:51.51.
He also finished in second place in the men’s 50 meter butterfly behind Caeleb Dressel, and fourth place in the men’s 100 meter freestyle. Shields scored a total of 39.5 points for his team in the two days of the ISL competition in Maryland.
The Los Angeles Current earned the most points (495) in Maryland, and they are headed to Las Vegas for the grand ISL finale, along with the Cali Condors, who finished in second place with 489.5 points.
This past summer, as Digital Journal reported, Tom Shields won two gold medals at the Pan American Games for Team USA in the men’s 100 meter butterfly and the men’s 4×100 meter medley relay.
