Kendricks won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.86 meters, where he left indoor world record holder, Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie in second place with 5.81 meters. Polish pole vaulter Piotr Lisek came in third place with 5.81 meters, and 17-year-old pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis (who is the world leader this year in the sport with 5.90 meters) finished in fourth place with 5.71 meters. Canadian Shawn Barber came in fifth place with 5.71 meters.
This event was a part of the Prefontaine Classic, and it took place on the Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon, which is named in memory of the track and field legend Steve Prefontaine.
This marks Kendricks‘ second consecutive IAAF Diamond League win this season, his first taking place exactly two weeks ago in Shanghai, China.
